Happy Handwriting Day
Well, 2015 has come and (almost) gone, and the new year is upon us. The next holiday on my calendar to celebrate? January 23 which is "Handwriting Day."
Of course a holiday like this would be of significance to a copywriter such as myself. These days with iPads, iPods, iPhones and iMacs (etc etc), the art of handwriting is lost. Generation Text has taken over, and who even notices spelling mistakes like their vs there vs they're?
The answer: I DO!
So on January 23, put down your digital contraptions and write something. Write a letter to yourself, write a note to someone you love, or maybe even just write a thank-you card. Forget autocorrect and pick up a dictionary. Forget short-forms (LOL, BRB, LMFAO, NSFW) and spell everything out.
PS: if you're wondering why January 23 is Handwriting Day, here it is. It's the birthday of John Hancock, the first person to sign the declaration of independence (for the U.S.). And of course, the term "John Hancock" has become synonymous with signing your name on something. So the 'Writing Instruments Manufacturers Association' decided to create a day dedicated to none-other than, you guessed it, writing.
So go ahead, pick up your favourite pen, pencil or crayon and make history.
